Guess who’s back, back again?!
With spooky szn officially under way, I wanted to make my triumphant return to my regular blogging schedule with a fun, light read on some potential couples costumes for Halloween.
Last year, Mike and I went as Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride, which is far and away my favorite movie of all time. It was fun, but I’m looking to switch it up this year with a funny, matchy-matchy costume.
Being one half of a relationship, it can sometimes be tough to agree on a matching theme- but I always say it’s better to go cute and quirky than weirdly suggestive. (there are a lot of bad costumes floating around the dark corners of the interwebs- pun intended. Looking at you, “sexy Handmaid’s Tale”).
So, without further ado, let’s jump into a few of my favorites so far!
By far one of the easiest/most recognized costume categories, dressing up like a superhero is also super fun- who didn’t want to have powers growing up? Plus, it’s a perfect fit for a couple, after all, there are any number of Dynamic Duos out there! I’m loving all The Incredibles costumes out there, since I loved the first movie growing up and was incredibly excited for the sequel!

If you follow me on Instagram (which I recommend), then you know I love food. So it naturally follows that I’d love to go for a food-related costume. These types of costumes go over well if you’re single, but if you’re going as a couple, make sure the pairing makes sense! Why not a classic like a PB&J sandwich (if you don’t mind being stuck together :D)?

3. Action Heroes
Halloween is the one time of year we get to dress up how we want- and of course, pretend to be way cooler than we are. There are a ton of really great couples costumes out there themed around iconic action movie and tv moments. I was always obsessed with Kim Possible growing up- I wanted to be just like her! And now, for one night only, I can. (the best part about this costume is that it can be pieced together with items from your wardrobe- Brandy Melville has a ton of affordable cargo pants in stock that would be perfect!)

4. ’90s Nostalgia
Even for those of us merely born in the late 1990s, the feeling of longing for that decade in particular has been pretty strong in recent years, especially as we’re seeing trends in fashion and entertainment coming back around. Funny how that works! One of mike’s favorite cartoons growing up was Hey Arnold, and I’ve always thought it could be fun to go as Helga and Arnold, one of the funniest unlikely pairings on tv (especially since Mike and I are so unalike, yet are each other’s perfect match).

I love a good dad joke as much as the next gal, so therefore I’m all about pun costumes. The coolest thing about this category is that a lot of the time, it’s fairly DIY, so again, an affordable option, especially if it happens to be last minute. You’re only limited to your imagination, but if it’s anything like this one I found on Brit + Co, you’re off to a great start, party animals!

That’s it for today! I’m always so overwhelmed by all the options this time of year, but I really do want to dress up and have fun with it, so I’d love some recommendations!
Keep it real,
*I didn’t include pricing because it really varies- if you buy from a retailer, you’re going to be spending at least $45 per costume versus if you make it yourself in terms of cost of supplies- that’s going to be up to you!
